The Moon and Fireworks

Recently we were sitting outside with my 4 year old daughter watching fireworks. For context, I need to tell you that she loves to see, not hear, fireworks and she loves planets!
As we were sitting there watching the beautiful colors erupt into shapes in the sky and pointing to them like she can’t see them, as parents do, she kept pointing somewhere else.
With all the bangs going off, it was hard to hear, so she kept yelling and pointing. I finally leaned in close enough to hear and she was saying, “The moon, the moon!”
Now, my first reaction was to be surprised and a little annoyed she wasn’t interested in the fireworks, which came not nearly as often as the moon. But as I looked back up to see the moon it was obscured by smoke and as the smoke quickly cleared there was a break in the action and only the moon shone down.
I was instantly overwhelmed by the majesty of God. Humans made the fireworks. They are loud, flashy, and exciting, but temporary. They start off beautiful, for a couple of seconds, then quickly turn into smoke, then quickly blow away. And yet our instinct is to give them our attention and not that steadfast moon shining so faithfully night after night.
God creates things that last. Though the moon is constant, silent, and unassuming, it is majestic, powerful, and created to remind us of how God is to be glorified far beyond anything we could ever create.
The next time you find yourself chasing after things man makes and forgoing the creation of God, take a minute to consider the moon and fireworks. The moon may be something we see often, but its glory doesn’t fade like the burst of light in the sky only to produce black smoke and be gone.
The creator of that moon created you.
Stop worshipping what the creation creates and realize the glory of The Creator in His creation.
This is so good! We so often forget to look at the beauty that God created and tend to focus on what man has created. Only through the eyes of a child are we reminded that our God created life! Thank you for sharing your story.
