Gift or Giver?

Have you every been thanking God for the things He gives you and then you become upset when you don’t have something your way during the day? We often focus on the gift, not the giver.
Another way this plays out is when we are good at something for a long time and all of a sudden, we fail. No matter what we try, we fail. We can’t make it happen again and we lose heart. Your trust is in the gift, not the giver.
At Christmas as a child, all the toys you got often broke quickly. If you only had faith and joy in that one toy your life would have been devastated at the age of 2! And, although it’s sad when things break, as a child, you trusted your parents to fix it. To replace it. To restore your joy. As children we trust the givers and their character.
Over time we begin to trust the gift that is given more than the one who gives it.
Evaluate your approach to Jesus like this. Are you seeking Him and placing your trust in Him? Or only in the things He gives you?
