A Physical Step of Faith

Updated: Jun 26, 2023

STUCK? If you journal, I do, you may find yourself talking about the same things year after year. Every day it’s the same consuming thoughts. You wake up with a thought about yourself you can’t shake. It may be your weight, what you eat, how you treat your family, lack of intimacy with your spouse, not feeling safe, anxiety, need to have more, the list goes on.

The point is, we often feel we are the only ones who are stuck in a never ending loop of worrying or obsessing about the same things… You’re not alone. Even King David was often focused on his troubles and the sadness he felt because of them. Absalom was obsessed by power and Moses was always focused on his lack.

So, it’s not just you! In the case of King David, he was able to balance out this sadness and despair with praise to God, he turned out alright. Absalom on the other hand, never let go of his struggle and it didn’t end up well. Then there is Moses, he finally let go and gave his feelings of inferiority to God and things changed in a big way.

Most of us have probably heard “let go and let God” many times. So why write this? I think we often forget the first part… let go… This is a physical act. It’s not just a decision or a mindset! David PHYSICALLY praised, sang, played his instrument, wrote his praise and the atmosphere changed. Moses PHYSICALLY threw down his staff and watched as it turned into a snake. He continued on in obedience, including raising his staff for the red sea, his arms for a battle, constructing a snake to relieve the people, the stories continue. The two things they have in common are faith and a physical act.

So, what physical act have you taken? I have had to do this many times in my life. Most recently it was to take a physical step of faith to launch my business full time. Maybe you need to make a phone call, set an alarm, write a note, sing a song.

The question falls to you… What overtakes your mind that you are sick of being stuck in a cycle of? Will you have faith that God can overcome in your life? And what physical act will you do to let go? Because as my pastor says, “what you do physically affects you spiritually.”

Let me know what you feel God is releasing you from and how this gives you the freedom to truly run into all He has planned for you!
